What’s Really Going On?

The last conversation Pastor Moses had with Eric, he told him “While you’re doing all the annoying jobs around the church, I’m praying intensely”

Unfortunately, Eric doesn’t know that ‘Prayer’ is Pastor Moses’ code word for ‘sleep’

What’s really going on?

Whose Prayers Are You Trusting In?

Therefore Jesus is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Hebrews 7:25

John is putting his trust in the fact that his risen Lord is now seated in glory and committed to praying and interceding for him, Eric is putting his faith in the prayers of his pastor… Hmmm

It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Romans 8:33-34

Religious Obligations

Pastor Moses often talks about how Christianity is not a religion, but John is a little confused. It seems Pastor Moses likes to the idea of Christianity not being a religion, but he’s still preaching about religious obligations every week?

Who Is Guiding You?

Pastor Moses simply cannot understand why John thinks the Law of Moses can’t be mixed together with the Spirit of God as our guide in life.

.

A group of Epicurean and Stoic philosophers began to dispute with him. Some of them asked, “What is this babbler trying to say?” Others remarked, “He seems to be advocating foreign gods.” They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and the resurrection. Acts 17:18

Christian Celebrity Syndrome

Pastor Moses has a bad case of CCS

(Christian Celebrity Syndrome: A believer who has an obsession with the idea of becoming a famous Christian)

Selective hearing

I guess Pastor Moses has selective hearing  ;-)

The Next Generation Of Church Leaders?

John is trying his best to help the younger generation in his church understand what is truly important to God, unfortunately he’s not having much success.

His greatest fear is that a whole generation of young Christians will grow up knowing everything there is to know about running a great church program, but little or nothing about the greatness of Jesus and his finished work!

Oh good Lord, may you pour out the glorious revelation of your gospel, the good news that reveals the greatness of Jesus and the power of his perfect finished work upon the cross, so that all the young believers will know you and understand your ways!

Boasting Or Commanding

John just wants to boast about all that Jesus has done. Pastor Moses is more interested in telling John all the things he should be doing!

Circumcision And Tithing

John is having a tough time trying to figure out why Pastor Moses is so convinced tithing is part of the new covenant, but circumcision is not. Aren’t they both religious obligations from the old covenant? Can we break the law up into pieces and take some of it into the new covenant and leave the rest in the old, or did Jesus fulfill every old covenant obligation on our behalf, so we could now live in a new covenant of grace?

Pastor Moses doesn’t see what Johns problem is. He thinks tithing is great.

The Foolishness Of The Gospel

John can’t help but think that if the gospel of God’s grace is proclaimed passionately and without mixture with the Old Covenant, the result will be salvation for the whole world!

Unfortunately Pastor Moses thinks that is a very foolish thing to believe, as none of the church growth guru’s ever mention such a thing in any of their books!

.

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God1 Corinthians 1:18
