Boasting Or Commanding

John just wants to boast about all that Jesus has done. Pastor Moses is more interested in telling John all the things he should be doing!

Sadly, people are so quick to swing the pendulum in the opposite direction of however they've been wronged or "mis-taught" that they miss the balance God tells us about and end up simply as "oppositely just-as-wrong".

If the context is "what saves me", then yes, Christ's finished work stands alone, and there is nothing we can (or should try to) add to it — our best efforts are as filthy rags before the Lord when it comes to self-saving actions. But if the context is Christian living (that is, what our purpose is here on earth until He returns for us), then just "resting in Christ" without putting "feet to faith" is just as abominable to the Lord as trying to add works to your salvation.

We're too often looking to "re-focus" so much that we forget that the Lord has given us the ability to walk and chew gum at the same time without having to "focus" on walking or "focus" on chewing gum". ;)

Hi Jason, John (The comic character) understands that Christ will 'do' many great things through his life, but he also understands that it is not him who is 'doing' it. John just wants to rejoice with his pastor about the greatness of Jesus and all that he has done for them… unfortunatlely Pastor Moses always wants to quickly put an end to all this 'Jesus and the power of the cross' talk and get to the really important things, like what he thinks John should be doing! But why can't Pastor Moses just enjoy boasting about Jesus with John? He is always so quick to try to make John take his eyes of Jesus and back onto himself.

We can rejoice together in the greatness of Christ, and we know that Christ will work powerfully in and through us. We don't need to tell eachother to 'do' because we know that Christ will 'do' everything he desires in and through us!

Oh what a typical, typical pastor! When are we ever going to rest in the truth of who we are in Christ?

All too true. Someone said that if you come away from a sermon with your eyes on yourself you haven’t heard Gospel preaching! Hallelujah indeed John, keep on boasting in Christ!
