John is somewhat concerned that Pastor Moses is leading the whole community to build something that God never asked his people to build in the first place; at least it doesn’t seem to be written anywhere in the Bible. In fact, Pastor Moses seems to be coping the pattern of the local Synagogues to justify building a local church institution; with it’s own building, staff, programs and religious services. But, as John tried to highlight to his pastor, there doesn’t seem to be any place in the Bible where it was written to those under the Old Covenant to build local religious institutions either?
Perhaps God never asked, and it was never written in the Bible for anyone to do so, because God never intended for local religious institutions to be built in his name in the first place?
John isn’t sure, but he thinks it is worth an open and honest conversation with his pastor, and his other brothers and sisters in Christ, at the very least.

I’m just curious- with this comic, are you trying to say that the idea of a church is unbiblical? Because I definitely disagree with that, but it’s also very possible that i misunderstood the comic or the post
Hi JPark,
The comic wasn’t saying the idea of a church was unbiblical, in the sense of a group of Christians who actively and on purpose get together and share life, but rather the idea to build an institution, or organisation that is then called ‘church’. The point in the comic was that Pastor Moses’ justification for the way he did things was that is how they did things in the old covenant with the Synagogues, which, as John pointed out, is also actually never mentioned by God to do either.
In the end, the comic serves to stimulate thought, John is only posing questions to his pastor, and his pastor is giving his honest answers; my readers can then come to their own conclusion on what is right and wrong.
