A friend once told me "that Jesus was often busy, but He was never rushed." It's a freeing word, to rest in the reality that we don't have to make life happen. He already has our steps ordered and the good works for us already prepared for us to walk in. All we need to do is to delight ourselves in Him and He'll give us the desires of our hearts .... to do his perfect, good, and "acceptable" will :) Glad He delivered me from the treadmill of Church, Inc. !!! Just right for this message. I love the way John gets progressively more weary as Eric tells him he's busy that day. How inflexible we can be as Christians when we tie ourselves down to programs. We can end-up missing out on what God really has for us - like that 20 minute conversion in a coffee shop that sends our belief system, and life, on a completly new and exciting direction. I have only been brought to the teachings of true grace over the last year, and the old traditions are hard to break free from, but it's the simpleness of points like you made that actually make it easier. Reducing the complicating explanations, and just getting to the core of the matter. Before, grace was just taught to me as the niceness I show others, when I don't really feel like it. The Lord has lovingly brought His Truth into my life and I am so thankful that I can take my eyes off of myself, and keep them on Him, where they belong!
