Rest

Eric has a great heart, he really just wants to see God’s will be done. But somewhere along the way he has forgotten that God’s will is that he would find his rest in Jesus.

John often wonders how Eric ended up so busy working for God, that he gave up the blessing of being able to rest in God?

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

I believe rest is vital in this year. My chinese pastor received revelation by God in order tell the congregation to rest for this year. Again, Pastor Prince taught about rest at last year’s december. So, rest is really really vital.

I used to tell people, “Sunday can’t be the Sabbath. Anybody who does church work knows Sunday is not a day of rest.” Too often we do get wrapped around the axle with “church work” and fail to see God’s work for us on that day. As Anne Jackson says in her book, Mad Church Disease: Overcoming the Burnout Epidemic, if our good deeds get in the way of our communion with God, we need to trash the good deeds. (Sorry, guess you can tell this is a hot spot for me. I’m still recovering from that “burnout” from almost 10 years ago.)

I recently learned that in Gen 2:15 God PUT man in the garden to tend and keep it – the word PUT is a Hebrew word for REST. Imagine that, in Him there is a place where we do ‘work’ but it actually is experienced as rest! May His saints be reminded that we weren’t made to sit idly by in this life, yet in all that we DO (in Him) it is not experienced as work but rest. May His people come to a place where the work flows OUT OF His life within, effortlessly. Thank you Mike for the reminded – if it is ME doing it and not restful I can return to Him, re-center on His life within and walk in the freedom of His light burden. Thank You!
