John is sure he read in his Bible this morning that the work of a Christian is to believe in Jesus… but Pastor Moses is equally convinced that Jesus said the work of God is to believe in building an amazing church service… OK, someone is confused here.
John 6:28-29 Then they asked Jesus, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”

Perhaps this is why so many people think the "Great Commission" is just a suggestion, and have turned it into the "Great Omission" — they think that to "believe in Jesus" means getting a new set of golf clubs.
"Belief", as Jesus put it forth, was always the enabling factor in getting of four duffs and DOING something about it. Heaven forbid we actually expect ourselves to "get our hands dirty" and give that cup of cold water, clothe the naked, feed the hungry, fix that broken fence for our neighbor across the street, help the single mother out by changing the oil in her car for her or picking up her groceries for her………..the list of things could go on forever.
MEET the needs. You know what we call organisms that love to take nourishment from others while refusing to supply any nourishment of their own, right?
It's called the 'ekklesia'. And it is commonly translated 'church' in your New Testament.
According to the first-century use of the word, an 'ekklesia' is a local gathering of believers who live as a shared-life community and who gather regularly under the Headship of Christ. There is no law to be doing it this way. But it a natural outflow of people being born again and under Grace. 'Ekklesia' is not a building. It's not a denomination. It's not a service. It's a local gathering of God's people who live as community and who assemble together regularly.
John: Pastor, only by right believing can a church build the right path.
Moses: What is right believing?
John: Believing Jesus is the one building the church and not you.
Moses: Er….? Who then run the ministries?
