John thinks Pastor Moses sometimes plays the ‘submit to spiritual authority’ card a little too much

Sam, concerning your post about your pastor using II Corinthians 8:5 to say first submit to God, then to preachers–I think he’s missing the point.
When reading that verse in context…The Macedonian folks submitted themselves to God, then ACCORDING TO THE WILL OF GOD, gave of their resources to Paul and his traveling companions.
The church is the Body of Christ. Christ is the head. If God moves you to give to your ministers, then do so. However, we’re not all given the same ‘job’ to do, as it were. You might advise your pastor, that since he wants y’all to give like the Macedonians did, that he should live as Paul did–traveling, being beaten, imprisoned, shipwrecked… etc. After all, Paul was following the will of God, wasn’t he?
instead of worrying about whether or not his congregation is submitting to him, he needs to be worried about simply pointing people to Jesus–instead of to himself.
Bottom line, your pastor seems to fit the cartoon character of Pastor Moses. Beware.

Today our pastor quoted 2 Corinthians 8:5 (New King James Version)
5 And not only as we had hoped, but they first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the will of God.
He used this to teach that we are supposed to be 1) under God and then 2)under ministers.
I would love to hear your comments on this.
Praise God! I don't have a pastor like that
Gosh every one is sooo good…and soooo true!
