In all honesty, I think "we the parishioners" are the most to blame for "modern" fellowships having to rely on being 501(c)3 organizations, simply because we're stingy and we don't want to give up our $5 coffee in the morning so others can hear the good news of Christ.
You see, the whole point of "tax exempt" status for churches is to allow them to "give to God that which is God's", and not hinder them from spending the money people give to the work of the ministry on taxes to the government. However, if everyone in the Church (big "C", meaning the Bride of Christ, not a denomination) was actively giving of their money to the work of the ministry, not only would every ministry be able to afford all the outreach they desire to do, but they'd also be able to pay those taxes as well (which many people consider "better" than the restrictions being a 501(c)3 "corporation" impose upon ministries) and still be able to operate without debt.
But unfortunately, because we'd rather spend our money on foo-foo-lattes, nicer cars and houses with so much space we have rooms we don't even walk through during a normal week than on the practical costs of the work of the ministry (even "just gas" ain't free, you know?), we force our fellowships to try and figure out how to do what they're supposed to be doing without any resources to do them.

Isn’t it interesting how Jesus said, “…I will build my Church.” and we’ve been trying to do His job ever since?

The bible makes it pretty clear that it's our part is to believe in Jesus, and his part is to build the church. But strangely enought many preachers are telling Christians it's their part to build the church and to believe in their vision…hmmmm

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world – the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does – comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever. (1 John 2:15-17; see also 2 Peter 2:18-20)

This always has been on my mind.. whats is this building.. someone before me speaking.. while i sit quietly not able to make a peep… and in this building their might be so many people// who are wondering how to be with God.. how can we help one another in a building that can only stand if we attend daily, and throw our coins in.. how can marketing a domination be a God thing… catch the pun
… so i love this comic…

The more you love Christ, the more you love his church – that is his people. I love the church, I really do. I had somewhat of a tough time uploading this comic, because I know it will probably offend some people I love and care for.
So then why did I upload it you might ask. Good question. I’m doing it for the very reason that I love the church. I just want brothers and sisters in Christ stop for a few minutes, and think about what is going on. God calls the wisdom of the world ‘foolishness’, so why are we using it for our model of church organisation and growth?
Until we stop to think, and actually give ourselves the permission to think about such questions, we will never learn from the Holy Spirit his way of Church organisation and growth. It won’t look like the world’s idea of wisdom; it won’t be founded on worldly principles, rules and laws. It won’t look anything like a worldly corporate business model, but it will work, I’m sure it will.
God created the entire universe by his Spirit. He holds the whole universe together by his Spirit. With the same Spirit he can build, unite and grow his people (that is the church), but we have to be willing to let him do it. If we keep trying to hold the church together by our amazing organisational skills, we’ll never experience the church being held together by God’s Spirit (that is by love, instead of structure).
Let’s all come to our Father as he desires, like children, and ask him for advice about this whole topic. He will guide us into all truth, and he will help us as we continue searching for grace.
Blue skies,
Mick

The first thing that comes to mind for the majority of Christians when the word church is used is the visible organization of God's people. It isn't so in the Scripture. Jesus didn't come to establish a 501(c) organization that comes together in a building, He came to establish His body, His bride comprised of His people. When those people gather together it should be as the early believer's did…..devoting themselves to the apostle's teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2:42
Grace Alone and Always!
