Poor old Pastor Moses will use any scripture to try to prove to his church members that they are still obligated to tithe… hmmmm
For those who are interested, the Bible verse John is quoting in the first panel is 2 Corinthians 1:20 – what an amazing reality!! The good news that Jesus has done everything on our behalf, so that now God can freely bless us apart from our works, performance or religious activities – and we simply say ‘Amen’ and that is what gives God glory!
Gosh the gospel is goooood

If you tithe because you are obligated, do it not. Tithe is 10%, if this is the amount you want to give out of your generosity, so be it! New Covenant giving is about the outflow of God's nature in us. So percentage is no longer the basis.
That's right Ledzbiz, and as it's now about generosity and not the law of tithing, all preachers should never be using tithing scriptures when talking about giving, but rather talk about our freedom in Christ, and in that freedom to give as our hearts are led by the Spirit to give. The word 'tithing' will always yoke people back under the old covenant mindset of law, so, in my opinion, no preacher should even be using this word, but rather be talking about how we now have the 'grace to give'
yes, may i just ask – are you trying to get the point across that tithe is not necessary? or that pastor Moses has the wrong focus?
Hi Adells, in this comic, John is making the point that the tithe is not part of our new covenant, as Jesus fulfilled all the Old Covenant laws upon the cross. Pastor Moses, being his usual self, doesn't even really get the point of John's statement and just continues on his merry way using any scripture he can to convince his church to tithe anyway.
So in answer to your question, John is definitely trying to get the point across to Pastor Moses that the tithe is not necessary.
Thanks for the comment, enjoy the rest of the comics
Of course, thats not to say that we dont tithe.. Tithing is not really for God's benefit, but for our sakes.. "If the first fruit is holy, so is the lump. If the root is holy, so are the branches." Romans 11:16
Always a bigger blessing to give, plus God Himself says to "Bring all the tithes so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this, see if I will not open the windows of Heaven and pour out such great blessing that you cannot receive it…" Malachi 3:10 …
now THAT I'd say YES, and AMEN =)
90% with Gods blessing will go further than 100% without.. I've tested it
I like
Wow, that is so true. ANY scripture. I've heard all kinds of exagerations. While I was under that kind of teaching, I rationalized it and thought "Well, the money is important." It wasn't until I started hearing pure grace teaching did I realize how harmful that garbage really is. Thanks again Mick!
