This is an excerpt taken from my paraphrase of Colossians, one of Paul’s prison letters (Part of my new book ‘The Gospel Cannot Be Chained’ a paraphrase of Paul’s 4 prison letters)
Dear family, how ‘good’ the ‘news’ truly is! We have everything because we belong to the One who truly is everything. I tell you the truth, and let us never grow tired of meditating on this wonderful truth: Jesus truly is everything!
He is the Way, the Truth, the Life, the Light and the Day! He is the Peace of God, the Word of God and the Love of God. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning of eternity and the End of eternity. He is literally God himself: the very image of the invisible God. He is the DNA of God that brought to life all of creation and it is through his life that all things were created. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
In regards to our redemption, he has done it all. He is the eternal high priest and the eternal sacrificial lamb; the God and the man. He both made the sacrifice for our redemption and was the sacrifice for our redemption. He has no limits in power, no limits in authority and no limits in his love for us! He is the Almighty, the glory of God, and the head of his body, the Church.
He has made us one with him, just as a head is one with its body, so too are we now one with Christ. We have become one with ‘the One’ in whom everything finds its purpose and origins.

I was just reading a blog post by Frank Viola where Frank was explaining his stance on his blog’s name “Beyond Evangelical” and where he explained what he means by that title. In his post, he explains that he is, actually, evangelical, and goes on further to explain what he then means by his blog title that one can assume he is indicating he is, well, beyond it.
Now, before I go on, I’d just like to say I think Frank is a champion. I really like his work, and think he has done a lot to help us all challenge the traditions we have inherited through religion. In fact, I did a really fun and insightful interview with Frank, that he also replayed on his own podcast ‘Christ Is All‘ about a month ago. This post is not a response to Frank’s blog post (you can read it here), but rather it is simply a thought that I had while reading Frank’s blog, and so I’m throwing my thoughts down now. I’m just trying to give you some background info on why/how I came to write this post…
