The Backsliders’ Pastor

Luke left Pastor Moses’ church about a year ago now, and after a lot of rejection from other church members and spending a lot of time walking with God outside of organised Christian religion, he’s come to think that the reason Pastor Moses never lived up the expectation and responsibility of being a caring, loving and personally involved pastor, is because it was actually never his Job. Luke has come to realise that Jesus truly is his pastor, and indeed he is the most wonderful, faithful and caring pastor he could ever have.

Eric of course, isn’t interested in Luke’s honest journey with God over the past year,  or how he came to understand that Jesus is his pastor; he just thinks it’s all a cheap cope out; something that only a backslider would ever say. But is that really the case?

The Church Leadership Lifecycle

Pastor Moses never has a problem with the church leaders who burn out after he has driven them as hard as he could for as long as he could, because they all just seem to disappear; at least disappear from his mind and thoughts.

Eric can’t help but wonder what happened to all those leaders who burnt out after serving Pastor Moses’ vision? They couldn’t all have been abducted by aliens, right?

A case of mistaken identity

Pastor Moses seems to have some difficulty seeing the difference between the almighty creator of the universe and the church institution he is employed by. In fact, when people walk away from the institution he is leading, he actually believes that equals people walking away from God!

What if someone backslides away from the church institution into the arms of God? Now that’s a thought that would really mess with Pastor Moses’ theology.

Denial

Pastor Moses says with a passion that he loves his flock, that is until they leave his church, then he simply denies they ever existed and continues building the church….  John can’t help but question if this is really the kind of attitude his pastor should have?

Becoming Non-Existent, Part 2

When Luke randomly bumped into Peggy, his old worship leader, at the local supermarket, he was a little shocked at her reaction. Luke always thought their relationship was based on their mutual identity in Christ, he’s starting realise that it may have been more based on their mutual identity in their church program. Now that Luke has left, he is, well… non-existent in Peggy’s mind.

Becoming Non Existent

Only 3 days after Luke made the decision to leave the church, Pastor Moses is already working hard to convince everyone that Luke actually didn’t even exist!

His theory is that if Luke never existed, then there’s no reason to talk about him again or the reasons why he left the church… Eric seems to be a bit slow to catch on.

Can We Still Be Friends?

Introducing a new character, Luke the ‘church leaver’

Geez Pastor Moses, it’s ok if you forget someones name after the first time you meet them, but after seeing them every week for the past seven years….errr, Awkward!
