Eric really can’t believe that Luke thinks he should be taken seriously as a Christian, even though he continues to say that he doesn’t need to have another man above him spiritually as his pastor. Eric even had to go as far as reveal some of his deep biblical truths that he learned from Pastor Moses on this very topic… hmmm, where exactly is that in the Bible anyway?

Since leaving the Pastor Moses’ church organisation, Luke has been discovering some amazing realities in his own faith walk. One of his greatest revelations is how Jesus is his pastor. Eric finds this ludicrous, because, to Eric, if you are a pastor then you must have the official title ‘Pastor‘ and should expect everyone to address you as ‘Pastor‘. This of course automatically disqualified Jesus from being a pastor.
Luke also finds it interesting that Jesus seemed to go out of his way to inform the early disciples to watch out for men who use titles such as ‘rabbi‘ or ‘father’ to gain a higher spiritual standing. Jesus said we should rather realise that we are all equal, all brothers, and only Jesus himself is our rabbi, our father, our pastor, our everything. Of course, Eric finds these thoughts completely foolish. Go figure.
Luke is really trying to figure out why, if Jesus was so against titles, is Pastor Moses, Eric and so many others in the church placing so much value in them?

“Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long; they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others.
But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah.” Words of Jesus – Matthew 23:5-10

…It seems OK to think of Jesus as the King of kings and the Lord of lords, the creator of the universe is also perfectly fine. Jesus can be the healer and saviour; Jesus can be everything… well, except someones pastor that is. At least, that is, according to Pastor Moses, who seems quite happy with that situation.
John is sure he read in the bible that Jesus also called himself the good pastor thought…

Eric genuinely doesn’t seem to realise that he spends about 90% of his time telling people how amazing his pastor is, and it seems that when he does talk about Jesus it is only to highlight, in some way or another, another amazing aspect of Pastor Moses and his ever expanding vision. John, as usual, is sadly unimpressed.
Eric is starting to feel a little concerned that his Pastor didn’t even ask or discuss with the church what ‘they’ believe as a community. In fact, it looks like Pastor Moses doesn’t even know what he believes. Pastor Moses feels justified for not knowing such things, after all he’s just so busy trying to build the church; who has time to stop and think about what they ‘believe’ anyway?!
Pastor Moses just doesn’t get John; doesn’t John realise that Pastor Moses is the funniest, most entertaining preacher in the city? Luckly for him, the majority of his congregation are happy to sit down and enjoy his entertainment. Boy, he would really be in trouble if everyone wanted something more than a few laughs on a Sunday.
