Setting Priorites
Now that John has been a member of the church for a few weeks, Pastor Moses is working on getting John accustomed to the culture of the church. First thing is making sure his priorities are correct. But, is ‘church service attendance‘ really meant to be John’s Number 1 priority in life?

Hurry with the breakfast, drive faster than the speedlimit allows, shake
Hands with the Guy at the door, take your seat . Opening Song, announcements, worship,
Sermon, oh we forgott the offering, Song or prayer, bLessing from the Pastor.
Someone took hours to prepare a sermon, another One to prepare the
Worship. And so on…..
I love my congregation but when Christian Life demands this hughe
Ammount of Time in preparation, so many People involved to have
Good Programm and a Never changing routine we are allowed to question
Our Sunday Services.
Yeah, I think we all know that our life in Christ is not meant to revolve around programs, but, if not conscious of this, it can happen all too easily. Thanks for sharing Tobi
To address the question, “Should church attendance be our number 1 priority”, my answer is no. Building a relationship to God through Jesus Christ and loving our neighbor would seem to be a good place to start looking for a number 1 priority.

We are not to neglect to meet together (Hebrews 10:25). The form that takes, the location that occurs in and when it occurs are not stipulated. Since we are the church, “attending” church is rather a misnomer. We assemble together for fellowship and encouragement and Jesus told us that where two or three are gathered together in His name He is there.

Sure Mike, I agree getting together with other believers is important. Not so much as a requirement for God, but more for ourselves. We need eachother. That is how we were created to be – together
I think Pastor Moses, however, is not so interested in the ‘being together’ part as much as he is in the ‘making the church service a success’
It would seem as if there is a growing argument that since we are the church we do not neet to ‘attend’ church. I do not ‘go’ to church, I have a fellowship meeting with my brothers and sisters in Christ. That this occurs in a ‘church’ building is coincidental. This is a commandment from Jesus and I do not know when that changed, if at all.
I know that some pastors are numbers orientated and there is no real ‘fellowship’ and my suggestion is to find a fellowship where you are comfortable to be with. To not go to a fellowship meeting is just plain disobedience.
I know that attendance is not the priority, but the establishing of each other and the relationship that is involved is!
I think the priority is to let God love you, and let that love overflow into the lives of others around you. Which, I think, is pretty much what you said too
I am not at all sure of what commandment from Jesus that you are speaking of Jacques?
I only remember Love God with all your heart mind and soul and love your neighbor as yourself.
