I can also remember being told that some groups/singers “couldn’t be Christian because of their appearance”! Stryper springs to mind as one such group, Techno Twins/Casual Tease another, both of whom appeared at the annual Greenbelt Christian Arts Festival alongside more “conventional” artists like Jesse Dixon . But then Greenbelt always was, and is, prepared to be out there on the edge. It’s held every year at the end of August In UK – this year will be the 39th!
I worked for Word Records for 10 years, and remember having conversations like this with people on more than one occasion. Or should I say with people like this? Whatever – more than one Christian artist took flak for not mentioning Jesus specifically in their songs. Is that about the Lord? or about their boyfriend or girlfriend? Sometimes the best answer was “Yes.”
