In our minds, knowing the difference between loving God and loving the ‘house’ is the sign of spiritual maturity.
You know the whole “house” thing means you have to clean it, take care of it, pay for it, make sure it is operating properly, and so much more that we tend to treat our time with Jesus like Martha. There she was cleaning around trying to prepare the place for Jesus to come where Mary could care less about the dust or anything “wrong” with the place. She found her relationship with Jesus just spending the time with Him. That’s all she needed; that’s all we need.
We’re building our paneled houses and leaving what He wants undone.
Wonder what would happen if we let Jesus back in the boat; maybe we’d reach our destination?
I always thought we were supposed to be a family – not a house!
i love your comics, Mick. Thank you, Agnes Grace
your comics always make my day, they are very funny but also very educational…thank you:-)
I have served “the house” for too long. Replacing “the house” with Jesus. Just Him.
Is “the house” not equivalent with “His Bride”? (Whatever state she might be in just now)
Can you get Jesus without “Her”?
I would know what to tell you if you made fun of my spouse or talked him down. If you are right or wrong doesn’t matter. I made a decision for him! And who ever claims to be my friend cannot be against my spouse!
Hi Coco, the problem is that Eric is not talking about ‘His Bride’ but about the church programs that he has somehow come to believe is ‘His Bride’. Take for example Luke, who no longer attends their church programs, Eric now considers him a backslider, because in Erics mind he has backsliden away from God, but in fact he has only backsliden away from the church program. The challenge for Eric is he can’t really see the difference. In his mind, being in ‘the house’ is not about being ‘in Christ‘ as you are suggesting (I would totally agree with you there) it is about being ‘in the sunday morning service‘
In my (limited, I can’t speak for everyone obvioulsy) experience, whenever ‘the house’ is disussed or preached about, it is normally with the agenda of pushing poeple to believe in ‘the building/the programs’ and if you no longer agree that programs are ‘the house’, then you can’t even be part of the community. But isn’t the community really ‘the house’? Well, not for Eric, and certainly not for Pastor Moses.
This comic is showing how Eric has actually lost site of Jesus. He naturally thinks he has lots to talk about Jesus, because he is a passionate Christian, but then when he thinks about it, all he knows to talk about is church programs, and how great his pastor is, and about his pastor’s vision, and about serving and building church programs and so on and so on… what does he have to say about Jesus? Where is the love in Eric’s eyes when he simply talks about Jesus?
My website has literally hundreds of hours worth of preaching and writings on the love of Jesus, his greatness and his passion for all of us who are his bride. It’s all I really live for, so I can assure you I’m not talking bad about Jesus or his bride.
Thanks for you comment, and be assured I wasn’t saying anything bad about your spouse
Love it! Your comics really show the EXACT reasons why I have pulled away from “mainstream” Christianity for the most part. Thanks Mick for helping me see the lighter side of it all, and reminding me I’m not alone <3
Maybe Eric things Jesus returned as a cranky television doctor?
